Ivan Vazov

1. Ivan Vazov was a Bulgarian poet, novelist, and journalist.
2. He is considered one of the greatest Bulgarian writers in history and is often referred to as “the father of modern Bulgarian literature”.
3. Vazov was born on March 10, 1850, in Gabrovo, a small town in Bulgaria, and died on November 29, 1921, in Sofia.
4. His most famous work is the novel “Under the Yoke” (Под игото), which was published in 1894 and became an important symbol of Bulgarian nationalism.
5. Vazov was awarded numerous literary prizes during his lifetime, including the Russian Imperial Prize for Literature in 1897.
6. In addition to writing, Vazov also played a significant role in Bulgarian politics. He served as an MP and Minister of Education in various governments.
7. After his death, Vazov’s remains were transferred to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Sofia’s Central Cemetery, where he is considered one of Bulgaria’s national heroes.
