Ripple Effect: episode 4, season 1

FADE IN:

EXT. COAST GUARD STATION – DAY

The team is gathered outside the station, surveying the damage from the previous day’s event.

MAYA
(looking out at the wreckage)
I don’t know how much more of this I can take. Every time my powers get stronger, something gets destroyed.

ELLIOT
( placing a hand on her shoulder)
We’ll figure it out, Maya. We just need to understand your connection to these locations and times.

JESSE
(skeptical)
And maybe, just maybe, we should involve the Coast Guard in this investigation. They have resources we don’t.

ZEE
(nodding)
I agree with Jesse. We can’t keep dealing with the consequences of Maya’s powers on our own.

MAYA
(firmly)
No way. I’m not going to let them get in the way of finding answers. Not yet.

CUT TO:

INT. COAST GUARD STATION – LAB – DAY

The team is huddled around a computer, studying satellite imagery and radar data.

ELLIOT
( analyzing the data)
It looks like your powers are creating some kind of resonance pattern, Maya. If we can pinpoint the source…

MAYA
(interrupting)
I think I know where this might be leading us. ( pulls up a map on her tablet) This is a list of ancient coastal settlements that were wiped out by natural disasters.

JESSE
(intrigued)
You mean to say these events are connected to some kind of historical pattern?

MAYA
(nodding)
Exactly. And I think we’re getting close to understanding why my powers are triggered by specific locations and times.

CUT TO:

EXT. COAST GUARD STATION – DAY

The team is standing outside, looking out at the ocean. Maya’s eyes are fixed on a specific point in the distance.

MAYA
(determined)
I think I know where we need to go next. (pulls out her tablet and begins typing)

ELLIOT
(concerned)
Maya, are you sure that’s a good idea?

MAYA
(firmly)
We have to try. We can’t keep running from this.

CUT TO:

EXT. ANCIENT COASTAL SETTLEMENT – DAY

The team is standing at the edge of an ancient settlement, surrounded by crumbling ruins and overgrown vegetation.

ZEE
(breathlessly)
Whoa…this place is like something out of a movie.

JESSE
(skeptical)
You mean to say this is where Maya’s powers are coming from?

MAYA
(nodding)
I think so. I can feel it.

ELLIOT
(examining the ruins)
This looks like some kind of ancient temple or shrine. Maybe there’s a connection here.

MAYA
(looking around)
I don’t know what we’re going to find, but I have a feeling this is just the beginning.

FADE TO BLACK.
