π Here’s the today’s weather forecast for the HATS-13b exoplanet, located approximately 160 light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Pictor βοΈ:
The weather at HATS-13b is looking hot and toasty ποΈ! Temperatures are soaring to a scorching high of 2,200Β°F (1,200Β°C), making it one of the hottest places in our known universe π₯. The atmospheric pressure is also incredibly low, similar to that on Venus π.
But don’t worry about the extreme conditions β HATS-13b’s thick atmosphere made up mostly of hydrogen and helium helps to create a “blanket” effect, trapping heat and making it possible for liquid water to exist on the surface π§. This makes it an interesting target in the search for extraterrestrial life π½.
Trivia: Did you know that HATS-13 is actually one of the brightest stars in the constellation Pictor βοΈ? It’s a K-type main-sequence star, which means it’s about 20% larger and cooler than our Sun βοΈ. The HATs (Hobby-Eberly Transit Search) survey discovered this exoplanet in 2014 π.
