1. Muhammad Ali was an American professional boxer and activist, born on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time.
2. Ali won the heavyweight championship three times during his career, and is best known for his fights against Joe Frazier and George Foreman.
3. Outside of the ring, Ali was a prominent civil rights activist, refusing to serve in the Vietnam War due to religious beliefs and opposing segregation laws. He was eventually stripped of his boxing title and banned from the sport for three years as a result of his stand against the war.
4. Ali’s quick wit and charisma made him a beloved figure both inside and outside of the boxing world, earning him the nickname “The Greatest”.
5. In 1996, Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which greatly affected his physical abilities and speech. Despite this, he continued to make public appearances and inspire others with his strength and resilience until his death on June 3, 2016 at the age of 74.
6. Muhammad Ali was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States, in recognition of his achievements both inside and outside of the boxing ring.
7. In addition to his boxing career and civil rights activism, Ali also participated in humanitarian efforts throughout his life, supporting various causes such as poverty relief, disaster relief, and promoting peace and unity around the world.
