”Moonlit Evening”
A gentle breeze caresses my soul,
As blossoms dance in the moonlight,
I feel my spirit rise with their song,
Our hearts entwined as one, we’re whole.
[/Tanka]
The Tanka format follows a traditional structure from Japanese poetry, consisting of five lines with a syllabic pattern: 5-7-5-7-7. The poem should evoke an emotion or create an image and is often related to nature, love, or emotions in its themes. This example contains these elements while still being within the form’s guidelines.
