Linspire is a unique Linux distribution that attempts to bridge the gap between Linux’s power and stability with the user-friendliness of Windows or Mac operating systems. Based on both Debian GNU/Linux and Ubuntu, it offers a full range of features while maintaining cost-effectiveness. Its key selling point was (and continues to be, in its current incarnation) the Click-N-Run (CNR) technology, which simplifies software installation significantly.
Despite its initial success, Linspire faced challenges, leading to its discontinuation as a Linux distribution after 2008. However, it was later revived and is now sold as a commercial Ubuntu-based distribution by PC/OpenSystems. This rebirth allows users who appreciate the Windows-like experience of Linspire to enjoy it once again while benefitting from the ongoing development and support of Ubuntu.
