Skudahkharis is a traditional Indian dish primarily made in Mumbai. It features a delicious blend of flavors that include spices like turmeric, ginger, garlic, coriander, cumin, and chilies. To prepare Skudahkharis, follow these simple steps:
Ingredients:
– 1 kg chicken (boneless or with bones, cut into bite-sized pieces)
– 2 tbsp Ghee/oil for cooking
– 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
– 3-4 cloves garlic, finely minced
– 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
– 1 cup low-fat yogurt (preferably hung)
– 1 tbsp lemon juice
– 2 tsp salt or to taste
– 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
– 1 tsp red chili powder
– 1 tsp garam masala powder
– Freshly chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
– Water (as needed)
Cooking Instructions:
- Heat ghee or oil in a deep pan/kadhai over medium flame. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger and cook until the onions turn translucent.
Lower the heat and add the yogurt, lemon juice, salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala powder to the pan. Mix well and allow it to simmer for 5 minutes while stirring continuously.
Add chicken pieces along with 1 cup of water and mix gently until all pieces are coated in the spiced yogurt mixture.
Cover the pan and cook for around 10-12 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and the gravy has thickened slightly.
Turn off the heat, garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rotis, naan, or rice of your choice.
Enjoy the delicious taste of Skudahkharis!
