A Rispetto! A traditional Italian poetic form that is often used to express admiration and respect for someone or something. Here’s my attempt at writing a Rispetto:
Sembra un sogno, il tuo sorriso,
Che illuminò la mia giornata,
Con l’azzurro dei tuoi occhi, caldo,
E la tua voce, melodiosa, come un canto.
La tua passione è contagiosa,
E mi fa sentire vivo,
Il tuo cuore è puro e genuino,
Come una fontana d’amore, che zampilla.
Sembra un sogno il tuo amore,
Che mi ha fatto credere,
Nella bellezza della vita,
E nel poter essere felice.
Translation:
It seems like a dream, your smile,
That lit up my day,
With the blue of your eyes, warm,
And your voice, melodious, like a song.
Your passion is contagious,
And makes me feel alive,
Your heart is pure and genuine,
Like a fountain of love, that bubbles over.
It seems like a dream, your love,
That made me believe,
In the beauty of life,
And in being able to be happy.
Note: A traditional Rispetto consists of 8 lines, with a specific rhyme scheme (ABCCDDC). I’ve followed this structure in my attempt above.
