Naan bread is a delicious and soft Indian flatbread that pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes, from spicy curries to grilled meats. Made with simple ingredients like flour, yogurt, milk, and yeast, it has a slight tanginess and chewy texture that makes it a staple in many households.
To make naan bread at home, follow this easy recipe:
Ingredients:
– 4 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 tbsp active dry yeast
– 2 tbsp sugar
– 1 tsp salt
– 1 cup plain yogurt
– 1/2 cup milk
– 1/3 cup melted butter
– 1/4 cup warm water (optional)
Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well.
2. Add the yogurt and milk to the bowl and mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add warm water one tablespoon at a time until it comes together.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
5. Preheat a griddle or skillet over medium-high heat. Brush it lightly with melted butter.
6. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each one out into an oval shape.
7. Place the naan bread on the hot griddle, cook for about 1 minute, then flip it over and cook for another minute until both sides are golden brown. Brush each side with melted butter as you cook them.
8. Remove the naan bread from the griddle and serve warm with your favorite Indian dishes.
Enjoy your homemade naan bread!
