A chai latte is a warm and soothing beverage made from tea infused with spices like cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and black pepper, all blended together in milk or another non-dairy alternative for a cozy and flavourful drink. To make a chai latte at home:
Ingredients:
– 3 cups milk (or non-dairy alternative)
– 2 tablespoons loose black tea leaves, or 4 tea bags
– 1 cinnamon stick (approximately 1 inch long)
– 6 green cardamom pods, slightly crushed
– 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger powder
– 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
– A pinch of ground cloves or 2 whole cloves
– Honey (optional, to sweeten to taste)
Steps:
1. Heat the milk (or non-dairy alternative) in a saucepan until slightly warm but not boiling.
2. Add tea leaves (or tea bags) and spices (cinnamon stick, crushed cardamom pods, ginger powder, nutmeg, and cloves) to the pan. Stir gently to combine.
3. Let the mixture simmer over low heat for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4. Remove from heat and strain the spices out of the milk using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth.
5. Return the tea-infused milk back into the pan and warm it up to your desired temperature (do not boil).
6. Add honey if you want to sweeten the latte, adjusting the amount according to taste preferences.
7. Pour the chai latte into a mug and enjoy!
