Here is my attempt at a Rispetto, a traditional Italian poem:
Title: “Lacrime di Miele” (Tears of Honey)
Structure:
Each stanza consists of 7 lines, with an AABABA rhyme scheme. The poem has four stanzas.
Poem:
In secreto, il mio cuore piange
(A secret tears my heart does pain)
Lacrime di miele, calde e pure
(Honey-like tears, warm and for sure)
Come lagrime che il sole addita
(Tears that the sun itself has willed)
E in questo pianero, io mi struggo
(And in this woe, I am torn asunder)
Nel mio pensiero, un fiore sboccia
(In my thought, a flower blooms forth)
Della speranza, con colori freschi
(Of hope, with fresh and verdant hues)
E come una goccia di rugiada
(And like a dewdrop on the grass)
Quando il mio core si sente più caldo
(When my heart feels more warm and bold)
E l’onda del mio spirito si placa
Il mio cuore, un cielo sereno
(My heart is a serene sky blue)
In mezzo alle tempeste, un rifugio
(A refuge from the stormy weather anew)
Dov’è la pace, dov’è il riposo
(Where peace and rest are found, at last)
E l’anima mia, libera e lieta
(My soul is free and full of light)
In questo mio mondo, una fontana
(In this my world, a spring is born)
Dell’amore, con acqua limpida e chiara
(Of love, with crystal-clear water’s flow)
Che lava il mio cuore, e lo fa sereno
(That washes away my heart’s pain and sorrow)
E l’onda del mio spirito si placa
