Riddle

In water I can be seen,
Yet not as liquid or serene,
I come in many shapes and sizes,
But never take up your actual prizes.

I am often used for play,
And sometimes found near the bay,
But donโ€™t mistake me for food,
As Iโ€™m not to be swallowed and chewed.

My origin is from afar,
Brought by the wind or ships that tarry,
Though many see my beauty in vain,
I am more than just an oceanic rain.

I can be found in the air we breathe,
Yet I’m never a cause for grief,
For within me lies an ancient secret,
One that is kept through time immemorial and unbroken.

Can you guess what I am?
Something not often spoken of by man.
