Hoddeok is a popular Korean street food that has gained popularity worldwide in recent years. It consists of a sweet-filled pancake that is pan-fried until golden brown and crispy on the outside while maintaining its soft, doughy texture on the inside. The filling typically includes brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts such as walnuts or pine nuts.

To cook Hoddeok, you will need:
– 2 cups of all-purpose flour
– 1/2 cup of warm water
– 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar
– 1 teaspoon of yeast
– 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
– 1/2 cup of brown sugar
– 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
– 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pine nuts (optional)
– Vegetable oil for frying

Steps:
1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and warm water to form a dough. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth.
2. Add the sugar and yeast to the dough and mix well. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest in a warm place for 30 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
3. Once the dough has risen, add the vegetable oil and knead until the oil is fully incorporated into the dough.
4. In another bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon powder, and chopped nuts together to form a filling.
5. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
6. Roll out each ball into a thin circle with a thickness of about 3mm.
7. Place about 2 tablespoons of the brown sugar mixture in the center of each dough circle, leaving a 1cm border around the edges.
8. Fold the dough over to enclose the filling and pinch the edges together to seal it properly.
9. Heat a pan with vegetable oil over medium heat and fry the Hoddeok until both sides are golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
10. Remove from the pan and place on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
11. Serve hot with powdered sugar or honey drizzled over the top for added sweetness.

Hoddeok is best enjoyed when it is still warm, allowing you to enjoy the perfect balance of crispy texture on the outside and soft, doughy interior filled with a delightful mix of brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts. It’s a delicious treat that can be easily made at home and shared with friends or family. Enjoy!
