Slax is a lightweight and minimalist desktop Linux distribution that uses the Fluxbox window manager. It comes with a simple yet functional desktop environment and includes essential applications such as Chromium web browser, a text editor, and a calculator. The distro is based on Slackware Linux, which provides users with a stable and reliable operating system. Prior to version 9.x, Slax featured the KDE desktop and a wide range of pre-installed software for daily use as well as recovery tools for system administrators. However, starting from version 11.x, it transitioned to a Debian base before returning to its Slackware roots with version 15.0.0. Overall, Slax is an excellent choice for users who prefer a lean and efficient desktop experience without sacrificing essential features and functionality.
