Whether it’s the classic Turkish kebab, Indian tandoori chicken kebabs, or Greek souvlaki, these dishes have captured people’s hearts worldwide for their rich history, aromatic spices, and satisfying texture.
Recipe: Classic Beef Kebabs
Ingredients:
– 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or boneless steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
– 1 red onion, cut into chunks
– 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced
– 2 tomatoes, halved
– Handful of cherry tomatoes
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tsp dried oregano
– Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
– Wooden or metal skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
Instructions:
- Marinate the Beef: In a large bowl, combine beef cubes, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Toss until all the meat is evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to overnight to allow the flavors to penetrate.
Prepare Vegetables: On separate skewers, thread the onion chunks, bell pepper slices, tomatoes, and cherry tomatoes. Brush them with a little olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
Assemble Kebabs: Take the marinated beef off the refrigerator and skewer it onto clean, soaked skewers, alternating with the prepared vegetables.
Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Grill the kebabs for about 8-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked to your desired doneness (135ยฐF/57ยฐC for medium-rare). For an even cook, you can also grill them indirect heat for about 15-20 minutes.
Serve: Remove kebabs from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes. Serve with your favorite sides like rice pilaf, grilled vegetables, or a refreshing yogurt sauce. Enjoy!
Feel free to experiment with different marinades, spices, and vegetable combinations to create your unique kebab variation. Happy grilling!
