1. Frederick II of Prussia (also known as Frederick the Great) was born in 1712 and died in 1786. He reigned from 1740 to 1786, during which time he expanded his kingdom into one of the largest in Europe.
2. As a young man, Frederick studied military strategy under the great French general Marshal Vauban. This training proved to be invaluable in his later military exploits and was one of the main reasons why Prussia became such a powerful nation during his reign.
3. One of Frederick’s most famous victories came at the Battle of Hohenfriedberg, which he won against the Austrians in 1745. He is also known for his role as commander-in-chief of the Prussian army during the Seven Years’ War (also known as the “Holy Alliance”).
4. Frederick was a prolific writer and authored several books, including political treatises and memoirs. His writings are considered to be among the most important works on warfare from the 18th century.
