1. Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz was a German philosopher and mathematician, known for his contributions to logic, philosophy, physics, mathematics, ethics, and metaphysics.
2. He is often considered one of the most important thinkers of the Enlightenment era and has been referred to as “the last Universal Genius.”
3. Leibniz was born on July 1, 1646 in Leipzig, Germany.
4. His father Friedrich Wilhelm Leibniz was a professor of philosophy at the University of Leipzig and his mother Catharina Schmuckerdinger was a member of an aristocratic family.
5. Leibniz studied law, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Leipzig from 1661 to 1663 before traveling to Paris, where he met leading philosophers such as René Descartes and Nicolas Malebranche.
