2. Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, India.
3. Famous for his philosophy of nonviolent resistance called Satyagraha, and played a pivotal role in India gaining independence from British rule in 1947.
4. Studied at the University College London, where he was introduced to the concept of civil disobedience by Leo Tolstoy’s writing.
5. Known for his principles of truth (Satyagraha) and nonviolence (Ahimsa), which he practiced throughout his life and advocated globally.
6. Famously quoted: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
7. Initially trained as a lawyer but shifted focus towards leading India’s fight for independence after witnessing the hardships of Indians living in South Africa.
8. Assassinated on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist extremist.
