Beef and broccoli

A classic and delicious dish, beef and broccoli features tender marinated steak and nutritious broccoli in a flavorful sauce. For a tasty homemade version, follow this simple recipe:

  1. Marinate the beef: Combine 2 lbs of thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak) with 4 tbsp soy sauce, 3 tbsp cornstarch, 3 tbsp oyster sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, and 2 cloves minced garlic. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. Prepare the broccoli: Wash and chop 2 large heads of broccoli into florets. Blanch them in boiling water for 30 seconds until slightly tender but still crunchy. Drain and set aside.

  3. Cook the beef: Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef, cooking in batches if necessary to prevent overcrowding. Brown the meat, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes or until cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  4. Make the sauce: Using the same wok, add 2 tbsp vegetable oil and sauté 2 minced garlic cloves and 1 diced onion until fragrant. Stir in 6 tbsp soy sauce, 3 tbsp oyster sauce, 2 cups beef stock, 1/4 cup water, and 1 tbsp sugar until well combined. Simmer for about 5 minutes or until slightly thickened.

  5. Combine the ingredients: Add the cooked beef, broccoli florets, and a splash of sesame oil to the sauce. Toss everything together, ensuring the meat is evenly coated in the sauce. Continue cooking for 1-2 minutes to ensure all flavors combine.

  6. Serve and enjoy: Remove from heat and serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.
