1. Alexei Leonov was a Soviet cosmonaut who made history as the first human to perform a spacewalk on March 18, 1965, during the Voskhod 2 mission.
2. Born on May 30, 1934, in Listvyanka, Siberia, Leonov completed his pilot training in 1957 and joined the Soviet Air Force.
3. Leonov also participated in the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) in 1975, becoming the first person to fly to space twice.
4. After retiring from the cosmonaut program in 1982, Leonov continued to promote space exploration and worked as a television commentator for space events.
5. He was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union, the highest honor in the Soviet Union, for his contributions to space exploration.
