Giordano Bruno

1. Born in Nola, Italy in 1548, Bruno was an Italian Dominican friar and philosopher who advocated heliocentrism and opposed the Roman Catholic Church’s official stance on cosmology. 2. Bruno was excommunicated by the Inquisition in 1593 for his beliefs regarding the nature of God and the universe, which were considered heretical. He later died in prison in 1600 after being burned at the stake in Rome.
