Louis XXIV

Portrait of Louis XXIV, Avant-garde, Sand Painting

Louis XIV was the longest reigning monarch in French history, with his reign lasting from 1643 to 1715. He is often known as “the Sun King” due to his lavish spending and extravagant palaces. Louis XIV also led France into the War of Spanish Succession (1702-1713), which resulted in the loss of many territories, including Spanish possessions in Italy. He died in 1715 at age 76.
