1. Guru Nanak Dev was the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh gurus. He is also recognized as a saint by Hindus, Muslims, Jains, and Buddhists.

  1. Born on April 15, 1469 in Talwandi, now Nankana Sahib, Pakistan, he preached messages of devotion and social equality. His teachings aimed at ending discrimination based on caste or religion.

  2. Guru Nanak’s core beliefs focused on monotheism, salvation by the grace of God, and living a moral and disciplined life. He emphasized the importance of meditation, community service, and spiritual union with the Divine.

  3. He traveled extensively across South Asia during his lifetime to spread his teachings, establishing a strong base in Punjab where the Sikh religion began. His travels are documented through nine sacred texts called ‘Gurbani’.

  4. Guru Nanak’s influence not only shaped the foundations of Sikhism but also impacted the broader society by promoting religious tolerance and social justice. He advocated for the unity of all humankind, believing in one God who resides within everyone.
