1. Pythagoras was an ancient Greek philosopher, mathematician and founder of the famous Pythagorean Brotherhood or School.
2. He is best known for the theorem named after him – the Pythagorean Theorem which states that in a right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse (the side opposite to the right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.
3. He believed that numbers had mystical properties and that there was harmony between them, forming the basis for his philosophy known as Pythagoreanism.
4. Besides mathematics and philosophy, Pythagoras also made significant contributions to music theory, astronomy, and medicine.
5. His school, which was a secret society, had strict rules including abstaining from eating beans (which were believed to be bad luck) and not revealing its secrets outside the organization.
6. Although his exact birth and death years are uncertain, it is generally accepted that he lived between 570 – 495 BC and was born in Samos.

These are just a few short facts about Pythagoras that highlight his vast intellectual interests and significant influence on ancient Greek knowledge and philosophy.
