1) James was the first Stuart King of England. He became king when his father, Charles I, was executed for treason in 1649.
2) James was born in Scotland and spent most of his life there as a prince before he succeeded to the throne.
3) James I had two wives: Anne of Denmark and Queen Henrietta Maria. He fathered eight children during his marriage to Anne, but only three survived into adulthood.
